Award- $1,000 to $2,500

 

o    Candidates must be daughters or sons of veterans who served in the Armed Forces

§      April 6, 1917 through November 11, 1918 (WWI)

§      December 7, 1941 through December 31, 1946 (WWII)

§      June 25, 1950 through January 31, 1955 (Korea)

§      February 28, 1961 through May 7, 1975 (Vietnam)

§      August 24, 1982 through July 31, 1984 (Grenada & Lebanon)

§      December 20, 1989 through January 31, 1990 (Panama)

§      August 2, 1990 to the date of cessation of hostilities (Persian Gulf)

 

o    Judging:

§      Character   15%

§      Americanism 15%

§      Leadership   15%

§      Financial Need   15%

§      Scholarship   40%

o    One letter from either the principal or counselor, include class size, rank, and cumulative GPA

o    One letter from a clergyman/clergywoman of the applicant’s choice

o    2 letters from adult citizens, non-relative, attesting to the applicant’s character in regard to conduct, citizenship, and leadership

o    Essay no more than 1,000 words with the title “America’s Veteran Built A Better America For Me”

o    Letter from a recipient organization verifying 50 hours of voluntary service

o    ACT/SAT scores

o    Brief statement of the military service of parent or parents, including the branch of service and dates of service, or a photocopy of parent’s or parents’ discharge papers
